CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Main Room Tassel Making-Learn how to make your own "Site Token" in our Main Room throughout the day. Since ancient times tassels have had many uses. This class shows a method for making simple yarn tassels such as archers would use to clean arrows. Materials needed: Red and tan or yellow yarn. A 12 inch thin sturdy object (magazine or cardboard) to wrap the yarn around. Scissors. Optional: small gauge (approx. 4mm/USG6) crochet hook or large eyed needle (for threading the yarn).-Taught by Dorothea

Roma Room-Sivrid's Vegetable Patina-Pie plate or ovenproof pan, shallow pan, cutting board and knife, mixing bowl, blender or food processor (or mortar and pestle)
Ingredients: 6 eggs, 1 bunch of asparagus (trimmed) 1/4 cup coarsely chopped onion, 1/4 cup cilantro leaves, 1/4 teaspoon ground black or long pepper, 1 teaspoon dried savory (or sage), 1/8 teaspoon lovage (or celery seed), 1 tablespoon of olive oil (plus more for the dish), 1/2 a cup of white wine, 1 tablespoon of fish sauce.
Bononia Room-Share the Love; Tokens of Appreciation with Elizabethe Alles's: Share ideas for tokens/largesse to give to those who inspire you. Students encouraged to bring examples of tokens they have given or received.

Londinium Room-Making Books with Bill: Instructions on how to make a book. Will need to figure out time constraints but will cover a perfect binding (paperback) and if time allows sewing and binding signatures (hardcover books)

Roma Room-Bianca di Michaleto's Honey Cakes: Learn to make easy 3 ingredient honey cakes. All you need is eggs, honey and flour. In period these would be made with spelt flour but plain old all purpose flour works just fine. Cake tin, Stand or hand mixer, 3 eggs, 200g honey (approx 7.5oz or 5/8cup), 50g flour (all purpose works but if you want closer to period, you can use spelt)
Bononia Room-Henna: Ancient Beauty with Lady Shahzada Isfahan: An introductory overview class on henna-a plant used continuously from ancient Egyptian times through pre-17th Century life. Henna has a history spanning millennia, and had been used medicinally and for cosmetics. This class will include information on usage in Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome; through medieval and late-period timeframes. Henna’s use and importance in various religions and cultures will be discussed, and depictions from art as well as grave findings will be included. Basic botany and advice on making your own henna paste will also be covered.
Florentia Room-Beginner Norse Apron Dress with Hedwig Hefner: This class will give a brief, basic explanation of the Norse apron dress and cover the construction process of one interpretation of this garment. The pattern we will discuss has been particularly chosen as a beginner-friendly sewing project. All ability levels are welcome - if you can sew a straight seam, you can sew this garment!

Bononia Room-Secrets of Applied Timelines with Lady Dorothea de Beckham -From SCA persona development, Arts and Science competitions, to odd cocktail party trivia, this class explores the use of timelines at various time scales.
Florentia Room-The Elizabethean Coif with Mistress Fionna: Learn a brief history of the embellishments of the coif, followed by how to draft a pattern, sew, and wear a simple coif worn by women in the second half of the 16th century.

This can be made with store bought ricotta or homemade ricotta (recorded video here) and Handout Equipment: Stand mixer or mortar and pestle, Bread or veggies for eating, 1 lb of fresh or store bought ricotta, 1/2tsp dried mint or 10 leaves fresh, ½ tsp dried coriander or 10 leaves fresh, ½ tsp dried savory, 1 tsp dried thyme or a few sprigs fresh with twigs removed, Handful of fresh parsley, 2 green onions or chives, Handful of curly endive or radicchio or watercress OR extra arugula, Handful (or two) arugula, Fresh black pepper, Salt, Olive oil (extra virgin will work but isn’t preferred)

Florentia Room-Making a Skjoldehamn Hood with Peter-This is a how-to guide on sewing a lined late Viking age hood. He will go over the general construction, sizing, sewing, and a brief overview on finishing and ornamentation of the garment. The basis for this hood was radiocarbon dated to between 1050-1090 AD, which was found in a bog on the island of Andøya, Norway. **Will be using a sewing machine in the demonstration, but can be easily done by hand as well.**

Sauce:1/2 tsp freshly-ground black pepper, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, 1/2 tsp coriander seeds, pinch of asafoetida (see sub above), pinch of rue (or rosemary), 4 tbsp dates, finely chopped, ground almonds or hazelnuts, 2 tbsp white wine vinegar, 2 tbsp honey, 2c chicken stock, 2 tsp olive oil, 2 tsp wheat flour or wheat starch
